How Much Does Plastering Cost? UK Room and Day Rates
Typical UK prices to re-skim a small, medium or large room, plasterers' day rates, what changes the price, and how to get a fixed quote.

Plastering prices vary with the size of the room, the state of the walls and where you live. The figures below are UK-wide guides from published surveys, not Greater Manchester quotes, so treat them as a starting point.
Re-skimming a room: typical prices
Which? surveyed nine of its Trusted Traders in November 2025 and published the results, updated on 1 May 2026. For a skim of 5 to 8 mm over existing plaster, walls only:
- Small room (about 2.1 m by 2.2 m): £300 to £1,000, taking 1 to 2 days.
- Medium room (about 3.3 m by 3 m): £400 to £1,250, taking 2 days.
- Large room (about 6.1 m by 5 m): £600 to £2,500, taking 3 days.
Which? says these prices include labour and materials but exclude VAT, that waste removal may cost extra, and that prices are likely to be at the upper end in London and the South East. The ranges are wide because rooms and walls differ.
Day rates
Homebuilding & Renovating, in an article updated in June 2025, says plasterers usually charge £180 to £250 a day for standard plastering, rising to £375 a day for Venetian, lime and tadelakt finishes.
What moves the price
- Condition of the walls. Cracked, damp or crumbling plaster needs more preparation, or removing and replacing, which costs more than a skim.
- Room size and height. More wall means more time.
- The surface underneath. Old textured coatings need a decision before any work starts. Read our guide to Artex ceilings.
- Access and waste. Clearing furniture, protecting floors and taking rubbish away all take time.
- Finish. Specialist finishes cost more than a standard skim.
